Get to know me...

I live on the beautiful Northumberland coast, surrounded by wonderful landscapes and magical wedding venues. I took up photography over 10 years ago when I took a year out before undertaking a PhD in the Molecular Genetics of Osteoarthritis at Newcastle University. I taught myself photography and shot my first wedding 10 years ago. Upon finishing my PhD I decided to leave science and academia and turn professional. I love people, I love working with people, getting to know them and creating photographs that mean so much to so many. I love to get out and photograph landscapes and seascapes in my spare time. My favourite film is The Shawshank Redemption and my favourite album is Automatic For The People by R.E.M.

My style is a blend of traditional and contemporary. People often discover me via a breathtaking image that looks like a still from a Hollywood movie, but these are a small part of what I capture. I am primarily a candid, documentary style photographer. I turn up to your wedding in a suit, dressed like a guest so that I can blend into the background and capture people relaxed and having fun. I will undertake your formal group photographs after the ceremony in an organised and timely fashion, while these photos are more traditional, they are also the photographs that end up on many a mantelpiece throughout your families so they are important to do.

I shoot whole weddings, I shoot the marriages of two people in love and promising themselves to each other. Therefore, I don’t shoot to clocks or watches. You can’t rush a story, when you book me to shoot your wedding you get me for your wedding, not just part of it. This allows me to offer you a unique service, where your couple portraits are done in small bite-sized chunks throughout the day so that we can maximise the amount of time the you get to spend with your friends and family and at the same time ensuring that your photographs are as diverse as possible as the light changes with the moving and setting sun.

Your first dance is not my last event. As a trained scientist my understanding of light is one of my biggest strengths as a photographer. I can control the lighting in your photographs with a mixture of natural and flattering flash so that we can create really dynamic, contemporary images. I endeavour to create something unique at your wedding, something that no one else has, I’m an artist and I pride myself on my creativity and ideas.

The relationship you have with your wedding photographer is the most important relationship you’ll have with any vendor. Your photographer will be there all day and so with that in mind let’s meet up and have a chat! Tell me about your plans over a coffee, what’s important to you both, how you met, how your day plays out in your mind.

Over more than a decade I've shot at some amazing venues, some of which are listed below but not all. I've shot some unbelievable 'DIY' weddings in fields, gardens and parks. I'm always up for a project and if I've not photographed there then I'd always do a venue visit beforehand to scope out the best locations!

Testimonials

Linzi and Dan

“From the moment we met Dru, my mind was put at ease. His work speaks for itself and he is incredibly patient and kind. On the day itself, Dru looked a million dollars like the rest of our guests. He was professional and discrete, so much so that a lot of our photos are a complete surprise. I would thoroughly recommend Dru as a wedding photographer. Our wedding pictures are absolutely beautiful. I still get emotional when I look through them. Dru managed to capture the essence of our day perfectly.”
