Ellingham Hall
Ellingham, Chathill NE67 5EY
Nestled in the Northumberland countryside yet standing confidently among the very best venues in the UK, Ellingham Hall is far more than a regional gem. This magnificent, imposing Gothic hall combines architectural drama, versatility, and an unmistakable sense of occasion, making it a truly exceptional place to celebrate a wedding. From its sweeping reception rooms to its thoughtfully designed getting-ready spaces, Ellingham Hall offers an experience that rivals — and often surpasses — venues anywhere in Britain.

From the moment you arrive, Ellingham Hall makes an impression. Its commanding Gothic architecture instantly signals grandeur and significance, yet the hall retains a warmth and intimacy that makes guests feel welcome. Unlike venues that rely on a single impressive room, Ellingham Hall offers multiple reception rooms, allowing your wedding day to unfold naturally through a series of beautifully curated spaces, with every part of the day feeling unique.
This variety creates a sense of journey — ceremony in one room, wedding breakfasts in another, and evening celebrations in spaces that feel entirely transformed. The flexibility ensures that weddings of all sizes feel perfectly balanced, never crowded and never lost within the building.
Thoughtfully Designed Getting-Ready Spaces
Where Ellingham Hall truly excels is in its exceptional getting-ready spaces, giving both partners an experience that feels calm, luxurious, and special from the very start.
Lady B’s is a dream space for brides, and photographers. Complete with its own dedicated dressing room, it features a huge semi-circular sofa perfect for relaxing with bridesmaids and enjoying those quiet moments before the ceremony. Light-filled and elegant, it offers the ideal backdrop for photographs while keeping preparations relaxed and joyful.
The Honeymoon Suite provides an equally impressive space for grooms and groomsmen. Stylish and private, it includes access to a rooftop terrace — a rare and memorable feature that allows the groom’s party to take a moment, enjoy the views, and prepare together in a laid-back yet refined setting.
Multiple Ceremony Spaces to Suit Every Vision
Ellingham Hall also offers a choice of ceremony spaces, allowing couples to select a setting that reflects their personal style. Whether you envision a classic indoor ceremony steeped in character or a more contemporary arrangement within the chapel, the venue adapts effortlessly. It is also possible to get married outside, with the Hall providing a stunning backdrop and the peacocks wanding the lawns as you say your vows. This range of options provides such creative freedom, whatever the season or weather.
A massive plus point of having multiple ceremony spaces is that you don't eat where you get married. This means that the traditional ceremony room can be used for your family formals if it is raining or just too cold to get people outside.
This is a feature I really recommend to couples when looking for a venue. If your budget allows, always try and book a venue that has this additional space, it can be invaluable at any time of the year!
Because I bring my own lighting equipment I can light your formal photos indoors and make them look just as good as if they had been outdoors.
Outdoor Spaces Full of Character and History
Ellingham Hall’s grounds are as captivating as the hall itself. A woodland walk winds through the estate, complete with a charming bridge crossing a gentle stream — a romantic setting that feels secluded and timeless. It’s an absolute favourite of mine for couple portraits and quiet moments away from the buzz of the day.
Standing proudly within the grounds is a 300-year-old giant redwood, once a powerful symbol of Victorian wealth and status. Today, it serves as a living testament to the estate’s history and offers a breathtaking natural focal point for wedding photography.
The Iconic Chapel and Its Rose Window
Adjoining the hall is Ellingham’s stunning chapel, home to the iconic rose window that has become synonymous with Ellingham Hall wedding photography. Instantly recognisable and endlessly photogenic, the chapel provides a classic, elegant ceremony setting filled with light and character.
As day turns to night, the chapel reveals another side. Cleverly transformed, it becomes an incredible evening space for celebrations, whether you’re hosting a high-energy DJ set or a live band. The contrast between the chapel’s historic elegance and the vibrancy of a packed dance floor creates an unforgettable atmosphere.
It's here where I am able to use my own lights to sculpt the venue, whilst still maintaining a completely candid, documentary way of working. By illuminating the Top Table from outside the chapel I can create images befitting of your speeches, ensuring that the time of year or weather doesn't impact on you getting great photos. I am proud to have been internationally recognised for this lighting technique.
Time to PARTY!
I have my own lighting set up for the party and work alongside any lighting that your DJ or Band may also provide.
After-Dark Spaces for Unforgettable Evenings
When the party truly begins, Ellingham Hall delivers in style. The after-dark underground space and the Den offer a completely different energy — perfect for guests who want to dance, socialise, or enjoy a more relaxed atmosphere. With its games areas and informal vibe, the Den ensures there’s something for everyone, keeping the celebration alive well into the night.
What ultimately elevates Ellingham Hall is its three-day wedding experience. Here, your wedding isn’t confined to a single day. It begins the night before, with time to relax, dine, and reconnect with your closest friends and family, and continues into the day after, allowing you to savour the moment rather than rush through it.
This extended celebration transforms your wedding into a shared experience — unhurried, meaningful, and deeply personal. It gives you the rare gift of time with the people who matter most, making Ellingham Hall not just a venue, but the setting for memories that last a lifetime.
For couples seeking grandeur, flexibility, history, and heart — all wrapped into one extraordinary location — Ellingham Hall stands proudly as one of the finest wedding venues in the UK.
Ellingham Hall Recommended Photographer for Ten Years
I have been the recommended photographer at Ellingham Hall for ten years now, I have photographed weddings at The Hall in every season and every weather condition and built up a close working relationship with the fantastic staff who work there. Below are some of my favourite images from brilliant weddings at The Hall. As one of the few photographers who doesn't pack up and leave after your first dance, together we can create images that you'll cherish from your WHOLE day!
"Dru did the most phenomenal job capturing our wedding.
There’s such an intimacy with your photographer since they’re with you throughout the day, and I’m so glad it was him. He made us feel completely comfortable and at ease, and his professionalism and discretion meant we never felt overwhelmed by the camera. The photos are absolutely stunning — natural, relaxed, and full of emotion.
He somehow managed to capture the big moments and the tiny, special ones too. I felt completely relaxed knowing he was going to capture all the perfect moments, like knowing when the sunset was happening and keeping an eye out for opportunities for a good photo.
What really stood out is how much he genuinely cared — he even stayed longer than he needed to, just to make sure every special moment was captured.
I can’t recommend Dru highly enough; he’s truly amazing at what he does."
